Obituary for Marjorie Flowers Carroll
Marjorie Flowers Carroll passed away on April 6, 2018, in Brighton, CO, at the age of 85. Her loving daughter was by her side.
Marjorie was born on July 23, 1932, in Carthage, MS. Her parents, Ben Boy and Grace Gross Flowers, were farmers. Marjorie graduated from Carthage High School in 1950 and moved to Washington, D.C., and later, Hyattsville, MD. She worked as a telephone operator and accounts receivable rep for the C&P Telephone Company, retiring in 1988 with 30 years of service. After her retirement, Marjorie moved to Cherokee Village, AR, where she lived until 2013, when she moved to the Denver, CO area.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 50 years, David Orr Carroll; her sister, Katherine Cannon; and her brothers, Robert Flowers, Bennie Flowers, and John William “Bill” Flowers. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Carroll, of Northglenn, CO; her sister-in-law, Margaret Flowers, of Pensacola, FL; her niece, Jeanne Cannon, of Fairbanks, AK; and many other loving nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends, as well as by the loving and caring staff of Brookdale Brighton Senior Living.
Marjorie touched many lives with her bright smile, her sense of humor, and her compassion. She enjoyed square dancing, collecting antiques, and spending time outdoors in nature. She was an animal lover, and for many years in Arkansas she lovingly cared for stray cats and wildlife on her property.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made on her behalf to Alley Cat Allies, to support Marjorie's love of stray cats she cared for (www.alleycat.org) or to the New Providence Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 289, Carthage, MS 39051-0289.
Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at the New Providence Church in Carthage, MS.
