Obituary for Alice Marie Weber
Alice Marie Weber, 87, of Golden, CO passed away early in the morning of Wednesday, October 9, 2019, of natural causes. Alice was born May 10, 1932 in Densmore, Kansas to John David Stenger and Gertrude Mary Hardiek Stenger.
Alice grew up on her family’s farm in Densmore, Kansas with her brothers Johnny, Joe, and Tim and sisters Nora and JoAnn. Alice received her degree in Nursing from Marymount College in Salina, KS, followed by her Masters in Nursing at Catholic University in Washington, DC. She practiced nursing in Kansas and Wisconsin, and went on to teach Nursing at Loretta Heights College in Denver, CO. During her teaching career, she was obligated to attend staff meetings that drew out much too long. Her solution was to take a class that occurred at the same time as the meeting, because nobody could prevent her from taking a class and bettering herself. One of the few classes available during that time was a mountaineering class through the Colorado Mountain Club. Through that class, she met her husband Warren and married in 1967.
Alice had two sons, Wayne and Wesley, and became a stay-at-home mother. Alice and Warren raised their family in Leadville, CO from 1972 to 1985. Alice enjoyed sewing, gardening, and being a mother.
Alice suffered from heart failure, and in 1985 Alice and Warren moved to Canon City, CO to be at a lower elevation to help her heart. Her heart continued to degrade, and on June 13, 1998 Alice received a heart transplant.
Alice’s nursing background and positive attitude allowed her to live another 21 years with her new heart. She took very good care of it. Her family celebrated her “second birthday” every June 13.
Alice was very encouraging to her family and friends. Her attitude inspired confidence in those around her. She was a role model to many. She was very strong and controlled her life well all the way to her very last hour.
Alice was a devout Catholic, and above all a Christian. She lived her life with all intent of being with Jesus.
Alice is survived by her husband Warren, son Wayne, son Wesley and daughter-in-law Janet, granddaughter Dayna and grandson Hayden.
