Obituary for Alma Katherine Scofield
Scofield, Alma, age 101, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2014 at Emeritus at Green Mountain in Lakewood, CO. She was born on March 28, 1912 near Joes, Colorado and was the 6th child of John and Katherine M. Hill. Alma’s mother died 11 days after her birth. John Hill married Katherine’s sister, Mary L. Burkart and 5 more children were born. Alma graduated from Joes High School and married Floyd Delmar Scofield in 1937. They lived on farms near Yuma and Eckley. They had 2 daughters. Lorna Cary of Littleton died in 2012 of cancer and Janet West resides in Lakewood. Alma was a devoted wife and mother. She worked hard at supporting all aspects of farm life such as raising chickens, gardening, canning and cooking. She saw value in education and encouraged her daughters to attend college and take piano lessons. Alma was a skilled seamstress and quilter. Alma was active in the church and extension and social clubs. She always loved family gatherings and the extended family reunions. Alma and Delmar left the farm in 1991 and moved to the Denver area to be closer to their daughters. They lived in Lakewood at the Westland Meridian for 6 years. During that time, Alma became a member of Shepherd of the Hills Presbyterian Church. In 1997 they moved to Epoch Assisted Living that later became Heritage Club Denver Tech Center. Delmar passed away in 2000. Alma lived there until February of 2013 when she moved to Emeritus at Green Mountain. Alma is survived by her daughter, Janet West of Lakewood, grandson Nathan West of Newberg, Oregon and his wife Marilee Newell; grand daughter Wendy Cary and husband Troy Sanders of Fort Collins and great grandson John Sanders; granddaughter Susan and husband John Sheridan of Denver and great grand children Kristen and Ryan Sheridan; grand daughter Nancy Berheim of Tucson, Arizona and great grand children Dylan and Andrew Berheim; brother John Hill and Donna of Albuquerque, New Mexico and many nieces and nephews.
