Andrew B. Mazzone, (Andy) died on February 21, 2017, in NYC. Born in Boston, son of Eva and Antonio Mazzone of Needham, MA, Andrew graduated from Babson College in Massachusetts with a degree in finance. He also earned an advanced degree in economics from the New School and Cambridge University. A veteran of the U.S. army, Andrew was president of METCO, a division of Perkin Elmer Corp, for many years and chief executive of several corporations.
In recent years, he was president, and Chairman of the Board, of the Henry George School of Social Science, NY, who wrote, “His (Andy's) vision and passion heralded many successes for the school, founded in 1932 to establish economic justice and sustainable prosperity. These achievements included: Smart Talk, a series of wide-ranging video interviews with prominent economists, political scientists and social thinkers; and encouraging the school's free courses in political economy, tax reform and globalization."
A voracious reader, critical thinking, life-long learner, charismatic leader, and devoted father, Andrew valiantly fought a long-term battle with cancer, never letting his illness interfere with his love of social discourse and his devotion to cherished family members and devoted friends and colleagues.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa Mazzone of Littleton, CO; daughter Karen Mazzone of Littleton, CO; daughter Dina Segal and husband Jamie Segal and grandsons Justin and Alex Segal, of Conifer, CO; by sister Nancy R. Mazzone of Orlando, Fl; sister Ellen Mazzone Eberly of Canton, MA; sister Toni Jane Gillis and husband Dr. Richard Gillis of Needham, MA; sisters and brothers-in-law Joanna Valenti of Howard Beach, NY; Josephine and Carmine Alfieri of Ozone Park, NY; Mark and Linda Valenti of Orlando, FL; and by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins in Massachusetts, New York, and Florida.
Memorial contributions may be made in Andy’s memory to the Henry George School of Social Science, 5 West 19th St., Suite 2C, New York, NY 10011
