Obituary for Arlene Louise Weimer
Arlene Louise Weimer (Curtis) was born January 1, 1938 in Elbert, Colorado to Doris Frances (Roehling) and Rupert S. Weimer. She lived in Douglas County her entire life and died on August 20, 2022 at Cantril House, Castle Rock, Colorado.
Arlene’s childhood years were spent in Parker, Colorado where her family owned and managed Weimer’s Grocery. In 1956 she married Henry Harper ‘Bud’ Curtis, Jr. and together they raised a family on Oaklands Ranch located in the West Plum Creek Valley near Sedalia, Colorado.
Arlene is survived by her children, Henry 'Lad', Erin (Flint Sparks), Sean (Kelly) and Kimberly Curtis. She is also survived by her granddaughters, Danielle, Amanda, and Gwendolyn and her sister, Claudia Weimer. Arlene will be missed by a large extended family and many friends.
After graduating from Parker High School, Arlene attended business school in Denver. After marrying, she joined Bud in New Jersey and Texas during his Army training in 1957-1960. Their sons Lad and Erin were born during this time. The family then returned to Oaklands to begin a life on the Ranch. Sean and Kimberly were born soon thereafter.
In the 1970’s Arlene became an executive assistant to the Principal at Douglas County High School, a position she enjoyed for many years.
Arlene was active in the community as a member of the St. Philip in the Field Episcopal Church. She also helped to found the Douglas County Young Farmers and Homemakers Association and supported the Douglas County Historical Society as well as the local 4-H group. Arlene loved flowers and flower arranging, playing softball and piano.
Arlene was devoted to music and singing. She volunteered as organist and choir member at St. Philip in the Field Church. She was also an enthusiastic member of the local Sweet Adelines, an a cappella barbershop harmony group. She thoroughly enjoyed this performing activity that also nourished life-long friendships.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the board, staff and caregivers at Castle Country Assisted Living. Arlene was treated like family for more than 12 years at her beloved Valley House and recently under Hospice care at Cantril House. We are grateful for the respect, professionalism and dedication demonstrated over the years and upon Arlene’s passing.
A graveside memorial service will be held Monday, October 3, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Bear Canon Cemetery, Sedalia, Colorado
