Obituary for Audrey Lois Vogel
Audrey Lois Vogel (nee Johnson) passed away peacefully in Centennial, Colorado on July 1, 2015 after a short illness. She was 84 years old.
Audrey was celebrated in life as a true friend, wonderful wife, spectacular mother, caring aunt, nurturing grandmother and enthusiastic great grandmother. Always one to find the best in everything and everyone, Audrey leaves a long legacy of caring for others, compassion for all, and love of family while representing an example of a wonderful and complete woman. Audrey, a lifelong Christian, was an inspiration to all with her grace, perseverance, kind spirit and positive attitude regardless of the circumstances around her.
Audrey was born December 4, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois to Arthur Lawrence Johnson and Margaret Lisseta Johnson (nee Nielsen). Audrey joined her older brother Arthur Lawrence Johnson, Jr. in their childhood home on the northwest side of Chicago. Audrey graduated from William Howard Taft High School on January 27th, 1949 and was employed shortly thereafter at the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad. On June 17, 1950, Audrey was united in Christian marriage with Elroy Charles Vogel and began a wonderful life together in Arlington Heights, Illinois. Audrey and Elroy had two children, Robert born in 1955 and Carl born in 1957. The Vogel family attended St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Arlington Heights. Through next two decades Audrey was an active mother as well as business partner with her husband owning a painting and decorating business, a retail paint store and numerous rental properties.
In 1973, Audrey and Elroy moved their family to New London, Wisconsin to own and operate The Rainbow Motel & Supper Club. In 1978, Audrey and her husband Elroy fulfilled a long time dream moving to Loveland, Colorado to enter semi-retirement in the Rocky Mountains. Shortly after her husband Elroy’s passing on December 17, 1988, Audrey relocated to her home in the Homestead Farms area of Littleton where she led an active and complete life until her recent passing. Audrey was the office manager for Drs. Poucell, Varnell & Clark throughout the 90’s and active at Cherry Hills Community Church as part of the office staff, the After 49ers group, numerous bible studies as well as a loyal member of the church body. Audrey left a tremendous legacy with her children and grandchildren and rarely missed an athletic event, ballet recital, cheer competition or any chance to spend time with her family.
Audrey was preceded in death by her husband, Elroy in December of 1988. Audrey is survived by her son Robert of Centennial and Carl and his wife Carol of Cherry Hills Village. She also is survived by her five grandchildren Kallyn Connor (Nick) of Centennial, Eric Vogel of San Francisco, CA, Jenna Vogel of Denver, CO, Conner Vogel of New York, NY and Luke Vogel of Louisville, KY. Audrey is also survived by three great grandchildren Audrey, Jack and Cullen Connor of Centennial.
A memorial service will be held at the Chapel at Cherry Hills Community Church at 4:00 pm Tuesday, July 7, 2015. Pastor Brett Garretson will officiate. In lieu of flowers the family would ask any contributions be made to Cherry Hills Community Church in the name of Audrey L. Vogel.
Audrey will be interred at Loveland Burial Park, Loveland, Colorado next to her husband Elroy Charles Vogel.
Ellis Family Services of Littleton, Colorado is in charge of all funeral arrangements.
