Obituary for Carol M. Card
Carol Marjory (Hedeen) Card, age 96, passed away peacefully in her home in Littleton, Colorado surrounded by her family on Tuesday August 7, 2018. She was born on December 2, 1921 in Mitchell, South Dakota to Henry and Marjory Hedeen, She had two sisters, Mina (deceased 2004) and Lillian May. Carol attended Central High School in Sioux City, Iowa and graduated from Morningside College with a Bachelor’s degree in Music and Education.
At the end of WWII Carol was a Red Cross Volunteer in the Philippines. On February 13, 1947, she married James J. Card and together they had five children. Carol was a music teacher for the Denver Public Schools for many years where she made lifelong relationships with teachers and friends. When Carol and Jim retired from teaching in 1975 they enjoyed living part time in Richmond, Maine and part time in Colorado. Carol’s special interests included playing the violin or viola with the Arapahoe Philharmonic Orchestra for 30 years. She also played in a quartet from the church and she especially enjoyed being a member of the Memorial Bell Choir.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jim Card. Carol is survived by her sister Lillian Johnson of Chicago, Illinois and daughters Mary Kay (Ken) Eichelberger of Pueblo, Colorado, Jan (Rich) Bell of Centennial, Colorado, Amy (Rick) Johnson of Englewood and sons William (Chris) Card of California and Russell Card of Littleton. There are 7 Grandchildren, 15 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great Great Grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Carol was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Littleton. A celebration of Carol’s life will be held on August 25, 2018 at 1pm at the First Presbyterian Church of Littleton, Colorado at 1609 W Littleton Blvd. A reception will follow the memorial service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Carol Card, to the Memorial Bell Choir at the church.
Celebration of Life with reception following in Ficklin Hall in the lower level of the church. Private family burial will be held prior to the memorial at Ft. Logan National Cemetery.
