Obituary for Carol McGee Cannon
Cannon, Carol McGee, age 92 of Littleton. Carol – CC to many – passed away Friday night, July 1, 2016 in her home in Littleton, CO. An early 4th of July fireworks celebration bombasted into thin air over the lake outside her apartment window, paying homage to her love of country, life, and family.
Carol was always ready to tell a fresh story to willing ears. Her whole life it seemed the world happened around her and she carried on with it, always a pleasant smile on her face. Even in her last weeks she was making stories: the fire department invaded her apartment because the rain was leaking into a ceiling smoke detector and the building’s roof had to be replaced. “You see why I tell all these stories” she said to her daughter who was sitting with her. And then there were those fireworks the night she was finally ready to go home.
Carol was a wonderful wife to her husband William "Bill" DeVan Cannon (deceased), Retired Lt. Colonel of the Air Force. They lived in France for three years where Carol enjoyed the countryside and raised their son and daughter. Carol and her husband were the second owners of Blues Alley Jazz Club in Washington D.C. and later owned Spring Farms Nursery in Luray, VA
She was a loving mother to her son, William "Van" Cannon (deceased), and daughter, Lynda Van Deventer, who lives in Littleton, CO. CC's five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren were so dear to her. She loved family, friends, food, flowers, and her church and she never turned down a trip for ice cream.
Even in the end she was herself, scoffing at her ailments, telling jokes, and making sure everyone was fed; she never showed a mean bone in her body.
Carol was born in Clarksburg, W VA and lived in Albuquerque, France, Massachusetts, Luray, VA, Norfolk, VA, Washington D.C., Plano, TX, Springfield, VA, and finally, Littleton, CO.
CC will be missed.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family would like any donations to be made to Divine Mercy Hospice, www.dmsci.org. Their nurses and caregivers always looked forward to seeing CC and made her transition from this life to the next comfortable and peaceful.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at 10:30 AM at Light of the World Catholic Church in Littleton, CO (http://www.lotw.org/). A reception will be held at the church following the service.
