Obituary for Daniel J. Mullen
Dan Mullen, of Aurora Colorado, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 22, 2018 while at home. Dan was born on February 17, 1942 in Medford, Massachusetts to the late Helen (Wraga) and Chester Mullen. Dan spent his childhood in Hampton Beach, New Hampshire; raised his family in Willington, Connecticut and spent his last 25 years in the Denver, Colorado area. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Valerie (Deutsch) and three children and their spouses; Kevin and Laura (Kliebhan) Mullen of Wauwatosa, WI, Joseph Mullen and Kimberly Evans, of Denver, CO and Catherine and Terence Murphy of Scituate, MA. Additionally, Dan was the proud “Pop Pop” to nine adoring grandchildren; Daniel, William and Margaret Mullen of Wauwatosa, WI, Evan, Dylan and Melia Mullen of Denver, CO and Brendan, Maeve and Timothy Murphy of Scituate, MA. Dan is further survived by his cherished sister Kathleen Olson of Middle Haddam, CT preceded in death by Al Olson; and In-laws, Thomas and Dorothy Spinelle of Oak Park IL, Linda Deutsch of Mebane, NC preceded in death by John Duetsch and Susan Tobin of Richmond, VA preceded in death by Vincent Tobin. Dan attended the University of New Hampshire and upon graduation proudly served in the United States Army. His service included active duty in the Republic of Korea. Upon his discharge Dan began his 45 year career in the printing industry; a career which began with the Travelers Insurance Company in Hartford, CT and formally ended 5 years ago at Tewell Warren Printing in Denver, CO where he retired as Vice President of Manufacturing. Dan was very proud of his vocation and truly enjoyed his time spent at work. His dedication to his craft earned him the respect and friendship of those he encountered and the gratitude of those he mentored.
Dan was most happy in the presence of his family. He and Val were fixtures on the sideline, poolside or audience of most events that involved a grandchild. He also cherished his thrice daily walks with his Bernese Mountain Dog, Hugo. Dan enjoyed his later life in the Rockies, although he was a New Englander at heart and his soul was anchored on the New England coast.
