Obituary for Donald William Dunkley

Dunkley, Donald 'Don' William, age 81 of Evergreen. Don was born on January 2, 1932 in Salt Lake City, Utah and died on June 14, 2013 in Evergreen, Colorado. He attended Crown Point High School in Indiana and obtained his business degree from the University of Hawaii in 1955. Following college he served in the Naval Reserve. Don began his career with Standard Oil Company of California (later known as Chevron) in Honolulu, Hawaii. He worked for them for 32 years – the latter ten years being in Fullerton, California. Don and his wife Judy were married 52 years ago in Honolulu and enjoyed living on Maui and Oahu . Don lived in the Islands for 30 years. In 1988 he retired to beautiful Evergreen, Colorado. Don had a keen interest in sports throughout his life, his greatest passion being baseball of which he was offered a scholarship to play for the University of Hawaii. He was active for many years at the former Evergreen Athletic Club – working out and playing racquet sports. Living in the Islands he enjoyed many years of spear fishing which later changed to rod and reel. He had a love of music – especially the Big Band Era, Christian and Hawaiian. He was a member at Cherry Hills Community Church in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. He was a devoted family man and will be missed for his wonderful sense of humor and animated story telling. Don is survived by his wife Judy, his daughter Kellie Hart (Larry) and his son John Dunkley. His grandchildren are Austin Hart, Alexandra “Allie” Hart and John Mark Dunkley. He was preceded in death by his son Mark Dunkley in 1976. Also surviving him are his brothers Courtney Weggeland of Fort Lauderdale, Florida and David Weggeland of San Diego, California.
