Donna (Davison, Gooch) Bernklau passed away on Monday, December 16th surrounded by her daughters and husband.
Donna is survived by her husband Karl; twin sister Mary (Gerald) Curtis; her three daughters, Eileen Gooch, and her daughter Julia; Amy (Steven) Kaverman and their son Evan; Mary (Steven) Leith and their sons McCrae and Carter. Also surviving are Karl’s daughters, Linda (Steve) Jourdan and their children Errin and Nick; Lisa Lange and her children Ian and Kelley; Anne (Mark) Fischer and their children Courtney and Neal; and Andrew Bernklau, son of Karl’s late son Kurt.
Donna and her twin sister Mary were born in Colusa, California and raised in Livermore, California. She attended Colorado Women's College, San Jose State University, the University of Denver, and Arapahoe Community College. Donna was a substitute teacher and then an operating room and day surgery RN until her retirement.
Donna and Karl have been active members of the Littleton community. Donna was a committed community volunteer. She was a 60-year member of P.E.O., a Philanthropic Education Organization and an active member of St. James Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon, Stephen’s Minister, and Parish Nurse. Other groups and organizations who have benefited from Donna’s generous volunteer spirit include Friends of Nursing (FON), the Downtown Aquarium, 9News Health Fair, Littleton Historical Society, and the Littleton Bemis Library. She also spent many dedicated hours volunteering for the Littleton Police Department where she was recognized for her exceptionally dedicated service to them.
Donna enjoyed traveling extensively across the U.S. with Karl. She also enjoyed entertaining guests in their home, hosting many overnight guests as part of the P.E.O. Bed & Breakfast program to benefit the organization. Donna was an avid bridge player, crossword puzzle enthusiast and was part of the Under the Covers Book Club.
