Obituary for Donna Lou Kalahar

Kalahar, Donna Lou, age 71 passed away peacefully August 20, 2012 at her home. She has gone to be with the Lord. She would want to be remembered doing the things that she loved, playing bridge, gardening, fishing and doing volunteer work in her community. An energetic and creative person, Donna took great care with any project, enjoying home décor, flower arranging, landscaping and other artistic pursuits. She generously shared her talents with others through volunteer work or simply helping friends and family. Donna was born in Sherman, Texas October 10, 1940 to Charles and Mary Smith. In 1958, she graduated from Loveland High School. Graduating from the Greeley Cosmetology School in 1959, Donna was a hair stylist for several years and held licenses in Colorado, Alaska, and Wyoming. On October 11, 1959 she married her life partner Dallas Kalahar. They have two children Derek Kalahar and Dina Kalahar. Among her greatest accomplishments was being a stay at home mom for her children and volunteering at their schools, boy scouts and girl scouts. Throughout her life, the family lived in Colorado, Wyoming, Alaska and Texas while Dallas worked for Amoco Petroleum. He retired and they lived in Highlands Ranch, Colorado for 21 years. Donna enjoyed traveling and visiting new places. She was a great organizer and planner. She arranged for a month long visit to the British Isles and Ireland. In 2006, her family spent a week together in Washington DC. Over the course of her life, she enjoyed visiting South Carolina, Hawaii, Mexico, Vancouver, Nevada and camping trips in National and State Parks. Along with her immediate family, Donna is survived by two sisters, Charlene Lengkeek of McColl, South Carolina and Shirley Hill with her husband Ronnie of Loveland, Colorado and one brother Eddie Cahan and his wife Florence of Decatur, Illinois. Donna is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, other family and many friends.
