Obituary for Dorothy Anne Fried
Dorothy was born October 15, 1935, Chicago, IL and died December 14, 2019, Centennial, CO. She was the mother of Rabbi Barry and Debbie Lutz, Shari and Marshal Aster, Carrie and Kurt Miller, the grandmother of Rabbi Adam and Cantor Emma Lutz, Jeremy Lutz, Emily Lutz, Aaron Bloom, Isaac Bloom, Justin and Meghan Miller, Josh and Sage Miller, Jacob and Amber Miller and Jessie Miller and great grandmother of Hailey, Alyssa, Avery, Harper and Declan. She was the stepmother of Lori Fried and Chuck Fried and grandmother to Owen Muntz. Dorothy died Saturday after a ferociously stoic and extended battle with cancer.

Born and raised in Chicago, Dorothy was the younger of two daughters born to Nat and Emilie Weinfeld. Dorothy, was a regular visitor to the YMCA of the Rockies in her youth with her parents and older sister. The family rode the train out from Chicago in the mid-1940s during World War II. Her love of the Rocky Mountains led to her enrollment at the University of Colorado, from which she graduated in 1956 with a bachelor of arts degree. Dorothy made Denver her home for the remainder of her long and full life. Dorothy married Richard A. Lutz (deceased) in 1956 and Benjamin Fried (deceased) in 1967. Dorothy was a waitress, teacher, real estate broker and in her later years, a receptionist at St. Andrews Village, a job she loved and kept until the last months of her life.

Diagnosed with sarcoma in the fall of 2016 after a heart attack in July of the same year, Dorothy outlived the expectations of many, including her oncologist. She went about her life with quiet strength, determined to live out her years with dignity and purpose. Born a Jew but raised in the Christian Faith, Dorothy would eventually find her home in Christianity and ministered to many. She was loved for her strength but also her gentle and supportive spirit.
