Obituary for Dr. Jacob Paul Herman
Dr. Jacob Paul Herman, 38, of Highlands Ranch, CO passed away this week.

Born in Alexandria, VA to Paul and Cherry (Wales) Herman on July 25, 1977. Jacob grew up in Connecticut and Virginia. He played High School Lacrosse at West Potomac High School as well as West Springfield High School. He was recruited to play lacrosse for the Rochester Institute of Technology, where he majored in Biology. The RIT Tigers made it to the NCAA Final Four, with Jake as the captain of the team. After graduating in 1999, he moved to Pullman, WA where he received a PhD in Microbiology from Washington State University.

Upon moving to Denver, CO he did research on Cystic Fibrosis at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. He began coaching lacrosse at Regis Jesuit High School in 2005, where he eventually took a position as a Science teacher. In August 2010 he married Erin Browning of Steamboat Springs, CO. 2011 was a huge year in his life; he welcomed his son in February and along with the Regis Jesuit lacrosse team, he won a State Championship in May. In 2012, Jake accepted a teaching position at Mountain Vista High School, where he was also named Head Boys Lacrosse Coach. In October of 2012 he also was blessed with a gorgeous baby girl. The Vista Lacrosse program was his true passion in life. The game and his players meant more to him than almost anything.

Jake had an energy, passion, curiosity, drive, sense of humor and an enormous heart. He had a serious spirit. He filled every room that he entered with his personality, booming voice and amazing smile. He committed fully to everything that he took on in his life and was a light and strength for countless people. He was a true role model for the players that he coached, always making them strive to be better young men. His students were equally blessed to have had his leadership and guidance. Jake's children were the luckiest kids - he was never more proud or happy than the days that he welcomed them into his life. They were the loves of his life.

Jacob is survived by his wife Erin, son Paul (4), daughter Tobi (3), his parents Paul and Cherry Herman, sister Rachel, her husband Gerrick and their daughter May (1).

A small funeral was held at the Chapel at Ellis Family Services on January 21, 2016, at 3:00 PM. A large public Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at 3:00 PM in the afternoon at St. Andrew United Methodist Church - 9203 S University Blvd, Highlands Ranch, CO 80126
