Obituary for Frances Marie Waddell
Frances, age 60 of Monument, Colorado. Loving wife of Joseph Waddell.
Frances Marie Cernich Waddell passed away from pancreatic cancer at her home in Monument, CO, on June 14, 2021 at the age of 60. Fran was born in Boulder, CO, on May 9, 1961 to Frank and Helen (Hadley) Cernich. She attended Sacred Heart of Jesus Elementary and Junior High School, graduated from Boulder High School in 1979, and studied music at the University of Colorado.
Fran married Joseph Waddell on June 2, 1984. The couple moved to Albuquerque, NM, to operate their own restaurant, and subsequently moved to Arlington, VA, where Joe pursued a career with the federal government. In addition to their daughter and two sons, Fran lovingly helped raise many other children through her in-home daycare, and taught preschool at the Columbia Baptist Church in Falls Church.
Fran’s Catholic faith was integral to her life, attending the Denver Catholic Biblical School and graduating from the Catechetical School. She was a longtime organist at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Boulder, St. Agnes Catholic Church in Arlington, VA, the U.S. Navy Chapel in Washington DC, and St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church in Albuquerque, NM.
Fran was unwavering in dedication to her faith, family, and many friends who were her most treasured priorities. She was, and will be greatly missed. Her message to all was one of faith, love, and service.
Fran is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her loving husband Joe; three children: Justin (Christina) Waddell of Richmond, Va., Nate Waddell of Denver, CO, and Jessie (Rafael) Bejaran of Jacksonville, FL; and two grandchildren: Sophia Bejaran and Brandon Waddell. She is also survived by her six siblings: Steve Cernich of Louisville, KY, Chris Cernich of Tuxedo Park, NY, Kevin Cernich of Chicago, IL, Teresa (Andrew) Gorchs of Austin, TX, Joan Cernich of Boulder, CO, and Andrea Cernich of Indianapolis, IN; 3 nieces, 4 nephews, and 2 great-nieces.
Services will be held on July 3, 2021 at Sacred Heart of Jesus, 1318 Mapleton, Boulder CO 80304 with Visitation at 8:45am, Rosary at 9:15am, Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am and a reception at 11:00am, followed by a brief burial service at Sacred Heart of Mary Cemetery, 6739 S Boulder Rd, Boulder CO 80303 at 1:00pm.
