Obituary for Freda Delores Rever
Freda, age 85 of Goodyear, Arizona a former resident of Grand Junction, Colorado.
On Thursday, October 8, 2020, Freda Delores Rever said goodbye to her earthly family and joined her family in heaven. She was the loving and devoted mother of five children, ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Freda grew up on her grandparent’s farm in Miller County in Missouri. She attended a one-room schoolhouse until she was 10 years old. It is then her mother was able to move the children to “town” – Rolla, Missouri. Freda was very close to her mother and her family and always shared fond memories of her childhood. As an adult, Freda would return to Rolla when possible to attend the large family reunions to see her grandparents, mother, aunts, uncles, cousins, and school friends.
As a young adult, Freda owned a small coffee shop, The Totem Pole, just off of Route 66 in Rolla. It was there that she met her future husband, Raymond Rever. He was stationed at nearby Fort Lenard Wood Army base. They were married in Las Vegas NV and then started their life together shortly before the Army moved the family to Massachusetts, southern California, and then to Laurel, Maryland in 1960 which is where they called home for more than 40 years.
Freda was ahead of her time as a modern woman who balanced taking care of her family, their home, working full time and volunteering at the Catholic school where her older children attended. Her children recall times when she was ironing clothes at 9PM, baking treats for school activities and organizing our spring cleaning chores. Freda was a model hard worker and exceled at her job as a grocery store manager.
In her free time, Freda’s favorite activities included spending time with family and friends, playing cards and board games, and watching the Washington Redskins football team. She was an avid football fan for many decades. After the children grew and moved away, Freda became very accomplished in creating crafts, in gardening and in baking pies. Her unsurpassed pecan pies are well known among family and friends and are said by all to be the best ever. Freda and Ray traveled frequently to states where they could enjoy outdoor winter sports, especially snowmobiling. They also traveled to see their family in distant states and in Germany.
In 2000, Freda and Ray packed their belongings and moved to Grand Junction, CO where they built a beautiful home near the Colorado National Monument. After Ray’s passing in 2013, Freda chose to move to the Phoenix, AZ metro area where she bought a house in a retirement community. Soon after she had a stroke and moved in with her son, Al Rever and his family. Her gradual decline continued until she moved to an assisted living home on June, 2020. It was there that she passed with her family by her side.
Freda was preceded in death by her beloved daughter Patti Bailey Bush, her devoted husband Raymond Rever, and her dear grandson Joseph Howerton. Freda is survived by her four children, Sherie (Rever) Burgher and Tom Burgher, Dianna (Rever) Kimling, Albert Rever and Toni DeRado, and Carla (Rever) Howerton and Bill Howerton as well as her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
