GRIEF & HEALING
affirmations to uplift & help you through
each stage of the grieving process.
Gilbert Joseph Roy of Littleton, Colorado was born in Webster, Kansas to Edmond and Alma Roy on May 15, 1927. Gilbert passed September 21, 2017 at his mountain cabin near Deckers, Colorado at the age of 90.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Maxine, his children and their spouses; Leland (Constance) Roy, Dennis (Dee) Roy, Roberta (Jim) Bendik, Jeffrey (Shaun) Roy, Scott Roy, Jolene (Jim) Michaels, Kevin (Rhonda) Roy, his twenty grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and his siblings, Geraldine Pride, Annette (Carl) Swearingen, and Karen (Eldon) LaBarge.
Gilbert was preceded in death by his children Barbara and Steven and his sisters Rita (Robert) Stover and Germaine (Ronald) Thompson.
Gilbert met Maxine in 1947 in Beloit, Kansas at a local dance and married June 1, 1948. Gilbert was a man of faith that learned early on that hard work would be a way of life especially with the passing of his parents within a year of each other. Gil and his new bride moved to Colorado in 1953 with four kids in tow and five to follow. Gil began what would become a successful general contracting and construction business that has stood for decades. “Gil-Roy Construction” would become a well-respected name in the Denver area. He eventually passed on this business to family after his full retirement in 2003. At the beginning, and in the early and lean years, Gil, Maxine and the kids began transporting used and unused bricks to land purchased near Deckers, Colorado. These bricks would become the very foundation for a dream come true. Their cabin in the mountains has become larger over time with many additions to accommodate a continually growing extended family. This cabin would eventually become a permanent home for Gil and Maxine. The many family and friends were always welcome and among these faces, Gil felt he had truly found sanctuary.
Gil and Maxine traveled widely and always enjoyed an adventure whether sitting in a boat on a mountain lake with rods in the water, seeing country by motor home or walking through a watermelon patch in Southern Colorado. Most of all, they loved being surrounded by family. We will miss Gilbert Roy’s familiar ‘Howdy doody.”
May God bless a truly great man.
