Obituary for Gladys Mae Emmons
Gladys Emmons, age 90 of Littleton, CO, was born on December 18, 1929 in Reagan, Texas to JD and Jocie McCaleb. She was the oldest of six siblings.
Gladys and her husband Clyde married on June 5, 1954. They lived in Midland, Texas, New Orleans, Louisiana and their last and most loved home in Littleton, Colorado. They had four children, Warren Lynn, Steven Craig, Melinda Kay and Sheri Ann.
Gladys was an elementary school teacher and assistant principal for many years. She taught piano lessons to many children. She also worked at the The Denver and retired from Macy’s in her sixties. She was a devout Southern Baptist and very active in the churches she attended. She sang in the choir, played in the bell choir, and ran the 5th and 6th grade Sunday School class at her church in New Orleans and Denver for over 35 years. She volunteered to teach English as a second language and volunteered in the library at the elementary school in her neighborhood. She also made bridesmaid dresses for family and friends.She loved doing puzzles, playing games and cards. She was also an avid bridge player. She loved watching the Denver Broncos, and was especially pleased when the Broncos beat the Dallas Cowboys or Kansas City Chiefs. Gladys always had a smile on her face and made everyone feel welcome. To her family she always ensured the traditions of Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. She would only vacation in Texas or Kansas City where she could be with her parents, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, and their spouses and children. She was a cherished soul. Heaven has gained an angel.
Gladys is survived by her sons Lynn and Steve, daughter Sheri, eight grandchildren Jamie, Ashley, Nick, Dylan, Caleb, Mysti, Major, and Justice, nine great-grandchildren Malinda, Christian, Rayn, Cheyanne, Skylar, Austun, Montanna, Judah and Lillian. She is also survived by her children’s spouses Sherri, Carol and Joe, sisters Charlcie and Nona, brothers Bill and Gary, and countless in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Gladys was preceded in death by her daughter Melinda, husband Clyde, her parents, sister Glenda Rhea, sister-in-law Mildred Whittington, and close family friend Chris Dykstra.
