Obituary for Henry Herbert Allen
Allen, Henry Herbert, age 89 of Aurora. Henry, known to all of us as Herb was born on a farm in Cloud County, Kansas. One of eight children born to James F. and Esther A. (Holton) Allen. Herb left this world for a better place on August 1, 2014. He graduated from Jamestown High School in 1942, and in 1943 was drafted. He chose the Navy Seabees for his military service. As he said, 'I island hopped in the Western Pacific following up each island's recapture'. On his discharge from the military, Herb attended Emily Griffith Business College, where he chose accounting for his life's career. He married Kathleen (Kay) Lacina in 1960 in Denver, CO and adopted her son, Douglas. They moved to CA and then to WA and finally back to CO in 1981. Kay passed aways in March of 1993. Herb met Ethel (Laurie) Woodbury and they were married in 1996. The enjoyed world travel and playing tennis. Laurie passed away in 2010. Herb had various interest and hobbies, among them were leather crafting, macrame, making wind chimes, ceramics and many others. He was also a writer, and this year became published in the 'Good Old Days' magazine. His article 'Goin' after Ice' was published in the July/August issue. He is survived by his son, Douglas of Northglenn, CO, three step-children, Donald (Vanda) Lacina of Mesa, AZ, Larry (Myrna) Lacina of Westminster, CO and Karolyn (Lacina) Clark of Northglenn, CO, numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by Laurie's children, daughter, Chris (Woodbury) Leonard and husband Bill of Englewood, CO, son, Dana Woodbury and wife Gwen of Denver, CO and their families. He is survived by two sisters, Dorothy and Frances, and one brother, Merril, and their families. He was preceded in death by his wives, his parents, three brothers and Laurie's son, Glenn.
