Obituary for Jan Michael Cowles
Cowles, Jan Michael, after a yearlong and bravely-fought battle with lung cancer, Jan departed into the loving arms of Jesus on September 15, 2012 from the loving arms of his wife at their home in Lakewood, Colorado. He was born on April 13, 1955 in Manchester, Iowa and grew up in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. After graduating from Northwestern University, he attended Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and earned two Master’s Degrees; one from Colorado Christian University in Biblical Counseling and one from Denver Seminary in Old Testament. Jan loved to study the Word of God and his home library numbers in the thousands. He was a pastor for several churches in Wisconsin, South Dakota and Colorado. He was also a professor at Rocky Mountain Bible Institute and Headwaters Bible Institute. As an accomplished guitarist he played in several bands and duets over the years. He and his wife loved to hike in the quiet places of Colorado, Wisconsin and Italy. They went on missions trips together to Thailand and Kenya. He went to Cuba, Greece, Turkey, Israel and spent a summer with the Choco Indians in Panama. More than anything he was loved by everyone he met. He was a patient, kind and gentle man who always saw and brought out the best in everyone. Many lives were changed forever through his tender care. He is greatly missed by many. He is survived by his wife Tina and daughter Kalia; his parents, Dey and Vernette Cowles of Wisconsin; his brothers: Rick (Karna) Cowles of Wisconsin and David (Pat) Cowles of Colorado; his sisters: Debra (Steve) Gill of California and Christine (Tom) Newcomer of Texas. He also has several nieces and nephews.
Cemetery: Graveside service at 1:00 PM, Friday, September 21, 2012.
