Obituary for John Nils Swenson
Swenson, John Nils, age 74 of Centennial. John was born April 30, 1940 to Nils Bernhart Swenson and Alice Swenson in Morristown, N.J. The family moved their dairy farm to Hackettstown, N.J, after which his father died. His mother never remarried so John was fatherless from age 4. Upon graduating from High School, John moved to Colorado to seek his college degree. After two years of study at CSU in Fort Collins to become a Landscape Architect he moved to Denver, married Margaret his wife of 48 years and went on to have two children Rebecca and Scott and then complete his college degree in Marketing. John was hired by the Denver Water Department in the Marketing Dept. He ultimately moved on from that entry position to be the Project Manager of the Foothills Water Treatment Plant and finally as the Superintendent of Transportation and Distribution, overseeing the work of approximately 185 men. John was a member of the Air National Guard for 4 years and received an Honorable discharge. He loved the outdoors and for years was an avid hunter of deer and elk, and a fly fisherman. John retired from the Denver Water Department in 2003, but couldn't sit still and subsequently worked for the City of Parker and then on to The City of Aurora which he loved. He had wanted to retire finally at the completion of his 75th year. He went to be with our Lord and Savior on December 6th, 2014. John was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers Billie and Larry. He is survived by his sister Betty Bahr. John was a great man, loving husband and father. He is also survived by his wife Margaret Swenson, son Scott Swenson and Daughter Rebecca Johnson (Mark) and six grandchildren: Elizabeth, Sydney, Christian, Brandi Olson, Jayson and Justin Johnson.
