Obituary for John Rodger Mullin
John Rodger Mullin. Born July 17, 1933, Chicago, Illinois Died October 25, 2015, Highlands Ranch, Colorado
John is survived by wife E. Gail Mullin, brother James Mullin, children Holly Egan, John Andrew Mullin and Sarah Ann Husmann, step-children Scott Mallon Arnold and Matthew Lee Arnold, and ten grandchildren.
He grew up in northern Indiana, graduating from Mishawaka High School in 1951. He studied at Purdue University before launching his military career with the U.S. Marine Corp as a naval aviator, serving in active duty and as a reservist for many years and ultimately retiring at the rank of Colonel.
After completing his active duty with the USMC, John completed his degree at Long Beach State University, California. He then went on to have a distinguished career as a commercial pilot for United Airlines, where he eventually served as pilot training consultant.
A man deeply committed to his faith, John was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, where he was enthusiastically involved in the Stephen Ministry, Monday Morning Bible Study, Young at Heart, and teaching of Confirmation Classes. John was also a vigorous leader in Rotary, serving as President of the Denver International Airport Rotary and an active member of the Highlands Ranch Rotary.
With a passion for challenge, John loved mountain climbing, was a climb leader for the Colorado Mountain Club and successfully summited all of Colorado’s 14ers and the 5 highest peaks in North America. He also played golf for over 7 decades, although he never had the pleasure of a hole in one. He and Gail also enjoyed traveling together, from river cruises in Europe to exotic locales such as Cape Town, South Africa and Kathmandu Nepal.
A Celebration of John’s Life will be led by Pastor Russ Britton on Monday, November 2, 2015, at 10:30 AM at Bethany Lutheran Church, 4500 East Hampden Avenue, Cherry Hills Village, Colorado 80113. A reception will follow.
