Obituary for Kendall Hugh Holm
Holm, Kendall Hugh, age 70, of Aurora. A memorial service is scheduled for Dec. 30 to honor the life of Ken, CPA, lover of Western art and sportsman, who died Dec. 12. Ken succumbed at home of respiratory failure at the age of 70. Ken was a much-loved father, grandfather (known as Pepaw), brother, uncle and friend. Ken is survived by two sons, Kevin (wife Becky and grandson Drake), and Matt (wife Mollie and granddaughter Grace and grandson Quin). Some of the best times of Ken’s life were spent with Drake in duck and goose blinds, and attending the sporting events in which Grace and Quin participated, especially Championship games. He is also survived by brother Don and his wife JoAnn, and nieces and nephews; Suzanne Holm and John Schiller, and John and Kinga Holm. He remained good friends with his former wife Barbara, and her husband, Chris Christian, as Barbara is grandmother to Drake, Grace and Quin. Ken was born in Iowa Falls, Iowa to Hugh and Opal Holm, and grew up in Great Falls, Montana, where he graduated from high school. He entered the U.S. Air Force Reserves, and served as a staff sergeant until his honorable discharge in 1971. He graduated from the University of Denver with a degree in Accounting, and received his CPA designation in 1967. He became a member of the Colorado Society of CPAs in 1967, and the American Institute of CPAs in 1968. Ken was a business advisor and trusted counselor to dozens of businesses, on a local and even an international scale, helping others succeed and sharing his knowledge. At the time of his death he was senior shareholder and partner of the firm Holm, Ryan, Truitt & Hall in Aurora. Ken was active in civic affairs as a former board member of the South Metro Denver Chamber of Commerce and the Littleton Chapter of Ducks Unlimited. He maintained his allegiance to SAE Fraternity from DU and cherished those lifetime friendships. Ken’s passions extended beyond the grandchildren to fishing, and especially hunting, and from there grew an interest in Western art. He collected landscapes, wildlifes, bronzes, paintings and artistic items of historic and contemporary significance. He was featured in a recent edition of “Artzine” magazine, in which he described his pursuit as “The Chase,” in which he met the artists and got to know them as well as their art. Some of his favorite expeditions were to the C.M. Russell Show in Montana, Cheyenne Frontier Arts, Oklahoma’s Prix de West, the Loveland, Colorado Sculpture Invitational, and the National Western Stock Show’s Governor’s Art Show.
