Obituary for Lila M. Cockerham
Lila Maxine Newbill Cockerham, age 90, passed away on Friday, November 27, 2020 in Bucksport, Maine. She was born on June 23, 1930 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Horace Adolphus Newbill and Rosa Lena Mester. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1948, and from the University of Nebraska, with a degree in music, in 1952. She did graduate work in music at Brigham Young University.
She married Charles Marion Cockerham on August 29, 1955 in the Salt Lake City, Utah temple. She has seven children, Patrice Cockerham & David Dunn, Charise Cockerham, Denise Hall, Allan Cockerham (deceased) & Leeta Cockerham, Kathleen Treu & Denny Treu, Aileen Birch & Mike Birch, and David Cockerham & Lisa Cockerham.
Lila was a music teacher in Littleton, Colorado, and sang in and conducted many choirs in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She conducted Handel's "The Messiah" several times, and "Fiddler On The Roof," and played the piano and organ. She was a big fan of the Colorado Rockies and the Denver Broncos, and knew the statistics and the names of the players each season. She loved to play softball. She started the Newbill reunions in 1976. She also loved gardening, dancing, decorating, ceramics, crafts, Christmas, Halloween, the Gospel of Jesus Christ, working in the Denver temple, and anything that had to do with family!
Lila's grandchildren and great grandchildren are: Nichele, Kyle - David & Lewis, Dillon - Calvin & Camille, BreeAnna - Carter, Carrissa, Shawnteen - Noah, Seth, Connor; Justin - Theodore, Ashley, Shelby, Taylor, Hanna - Hudson & Haven, Cody, Brittany - Evalyn, Sydney, Reagan, Addison and McKay.
Her siblings are: Andrew Newbill (deceased), Elsie Rogers (deceased), Doris Brown (deceased), June Crawford (deceased), Hanna Horton (deceased), Marylyn Pulham, and Allan Newbill.
