Obituary for Linda J. Burton
Linda Joyce Burton died peacefully at home on May 27th 2022 in Centennial, Colorado.
Linda was born June 27,1946 in Bremerton, Washington to Raleigh Folsom and Claudia Gannett Burton.
The family soon relocated to LaGrange, Georgia where Linda grew up, attended schools and graduated from LaGrange High School.

Linda enlisted in the U.S. Army nursing student program and attended the University of Georgia for 2 years, then attended the University of Maryland Nursing School for 2 years and upon graduation became a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army. She loved her work at Walter Reid Army Medical Center and was featured in an Army Nursing Recruitment magazine advertisement.

Linda’s service to her country took her from San Francisco to Washington D.C in the United States as well as overseas assignments in Germany and South Korea.

During her Army career, Linda achieved many certifications and awards in nursing along with numerous medals and commendations.

While in Washing D.C., Linda was selected and served as aid to Jimmy Carter for his Presidential inauguration.
Linda was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army, after over 20 years of active service, with the rank of Major and chose to stay in the Denver, Colorado. area.

Linda then launched a second career in nursing becoming the Infection Control and Prevention Practitioner, BSN RN, Certification Infection Control, UC Health Hospital System.

During her civilian career, Linda became a member of APIC, a national organization of infection control practitioners and served on the board of directors.

She loved nature, wildlife, and all things about Colorado. She enjoyed hiking, bird watching, and camping.. She was an avid skier and skied every mountain in Colorado She especially enjoyed hunting with her "ole Army friends. She was always pleasant, witty, and quick to make friends. Her company was enjoyed by all that knew her.

She is survived by her three brothers, Richard Burton (Sue) of San Antonio, Texas, Scott Burton (Deborah) of LaGrange, Georgia, Gary Burton (Lisa) of Bogart, Georgia, niece Lydia Burton of Bogart, Georgia, nephews Russell Burton (Emily) of Mound, Minnesota, and Mark Burton (Ivy) of LaGrange, Georgia and 7 great nephews and nieces; special friends Gary C. Jessen of Aurora, Colorado, Doris Mason of Denver, Colorado and Diane Ludwig of Jacksonville, Florida.

The family would like to thank the staff at UCH Highlands Ranch Oncology, Brighton Hospice, Morningstar of Jordan, Amber Personal Care for the great care provided to Linda, and a very special thank you to Daniel Mekdes for her exceptional care, devotion, and compassion she gave to Linda.

Funeral arrangements are June 16th, 2022, at Ellis Family Services, 13436 W. Arbor Place, Littleton, Colorado. Services will be at 12:00 P. M. with Full Military Honors at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Staging area “A” with the U. S. Army at 2:00 P. M.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Cancer Society in her memory.
