Obituary for Lorna S. Cary
Cary, Lorna S., of Littleton, Colorado passed away peacefully at home on March 17, 2012, following a valiant five-year battle with cancer. Lorna was born on November 12, 1937, in Yuma, Colorado to Alma Katherine Scofield and Delmar Floyd Scofield. Lorna grew up on the family farm in Eckley, Colorado in the rural northeastern plains where life was always an adventure. As a youth, she was an active 4-H member, became an accomplished piano player, and was a good student. She graduated from Eckley High School in 1956. She then went to CSU in Fort Collins where she was involved in many clubs and organizations. She graduated with honors in 1960, with a BS in Home Economics. She then began her successful career as an extension agent at CSU Cooperative Extension Arapahoe County. She later met Bob Cary, a widower with two daughters, at First Presbyterian Church where they were both Sunday School Teachers. Bob and Lorna were married on June 30, 1962, at First Presbyterian Church and together raised daughters Wendy, Susan, and Nancy. Lorna continued her work as an extension agent. She was also a member of the AM Chapter of PEO , and was dedicated to serving Littleton First Presbyterian Church in many capacities including being an Elder, a Deacon, Senior lunch program, and a Columbarium Committee Member. In 2011, Lorna was happy to be honored and recognized as a Pillar Member of First Presbyterian Church of Littleton. Her hobbies included American western art, Book Club, playing bridge and duplicate bridge, and gourmet cooking. She was proud that her dessert recipe for “Grasshopper Souffle” was published with her picture in the Denver Post. She was known for her extensive collection of Santas which she loved to display every Christmas. Lorna loved to enter contests and drawings. Over the years, she won a trip to the Pro Bowl in Hawaii, a Caribbean cruise, and her favorite – a John Elway autographed Denver Broncos helmet. She enjoyed traveling and was fortunate to visit Japan, Germany, Nova Scotia, New Zealand, Australia, Mexico, and even Uruguay. Her last trip in 2011 was to Glacier National Park in Montana. Lorna was a Denver Broncos fan. She and Bob were thrilled to attend two Broncos Super Bowls. She loved her family, extended family, and church family. She was blessed with many good friends, particularly Barbara, Kate, Melody and Bev. Lorna also loved a good laugh. Lorna is preceded by her husband Bob and her father Delmar. She is survived by her mother Alma Scofield, loving sister Jan West, daughters Wendy Cary (Troy Sanders), Susan Sheridan (John), Nancy Berheim, five grandchildren, John Sanders, Kristen and Ryan Sheridan, Dylan and Andrew Berheim, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.
