Mardelle met her husband, Thomas Corrigan, after the end of World War II. They were married on 10/10/1947. After relocating to rainy Seattle for a short time, they returned to the mid-west and made their home in Sioux City, Iowa.
In addition to excelling in her home making skills of baking, cooking, gardening, and sewing, she was also a much-loved Brownie, Girl Scout, and Cub Scout leader. She was a full-time home maker until 1972, when she returned to the work force first as a secretary, and later as an executive for the Boy Scouts of America in Sioux City. She was a successful business woman, and during that time she was active in the United Way, Toastmasters and other volunteer organizations.
Mardelle and Tom retired to Colorado in 1991 to be nearer to most of their grandchildren. She worked part-time at a Hallmark store for a few years after the move, then settled into full-time retirement. After being widowed for 5 years, she moved into the Wind Crest retirement community and continued to play an active role in family life.
Throughout her life, Mardelle treasured her family most of all. Being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother were the roles she was most proud of. She also loved the outdoors, nature and animals, and she was quietly respectful of the environment. After her move to Colorado she had beloved pets, first a cat, then a dog and finally another cat for companionship. In retirement, without children at home, her pets became her children.
Mardelle was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister and five brothers-in-law.
Mardelle is survived by her five children (Tim Corrigan of Littleton, Colorado; Larry Corrigan of Hinckley, Ohio; Lynn Corrigan of Centennial, Colorado; Donna Corrigan of Brentwood, California; and Tom Corrigan of Brentwood, California. She is also survived by six grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and four sisters.
