Obituary for Margaret "Janie" Davis
Janie, age 88 of Littleton, Colorado.
Janie and her twin brother, David, were born January 4, 1931 to Dr. and Mrs. Dewey Steffenhagen, and together with older brother Robert, grew up in the small town of Canajoharie in upstate New York. While at a summer dance at Caroga Lake, Janie met Richard “Dick” Davis. They dated throughout high school and Dick’s college years and married on Easter Sunday, March 25, 1951.
After being discharged from the Army, Dick and Jane settled in Schenectady, NY where Dick began his career with General Electric. After five years of marriage, Janie was able to fulfill her wish of being a mother. Daughter Lisa was born in 1956, followed by sisters Mindy and Kelly. The family moved to Denver, Colorado in 1965 where the fourth Davis girl, Julie, was born.
As a full time homemaker, Janie was busy with family activities, but always found time to indulge her love of reading, and instilled that passion in each of her children. As daughters grew up and left home, she had more time to spend on hobbies. Janie would always say that she had no artistic talent, but her cross-stitch pieces were truly beautiful works of art and are among her family’s most prized possessions.
Janie loved to play cards and belonged to several ladies bridge groups, as well as bridge and pinochle groups for couples. While living in Clearwater, Florida Janie was invited to join a women’s philanthropic educational organization. P.E.O. She was active participant both in Clearwater and in Littleton, where members of Chapter FB were among her closest friends.
Janie is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Dick; daughters Lisa Brown, Mindy Davis, Kelly Davis all of Littleton, CO and daughter and son-in-law Julie and Grady King of Athens, Alabama. She is also survived by granddaughter Katie Brown and grandson-in-law Michael Rosenzweig of Lafayette, CO; grandson Cameron Pritekel of Denver, CO; granddaughter Madeleine King of Birmingham, AL; granddaughter Peyton Pritekel of Loveland, CO and granddaughter Lauren King of Auburn, AL.
Friends are invited to join Janie’s family for a memorial luncheon on Saturday, March 23rd from 12:00 Noon to 3:00 PM at Peak Community & Wellness Center, 6612 S. Ward Rd., Littleton, CO 80127.
