Plant a tree in memory of Maria

An environmentally friendly option
Obituary for Maria Elia Stoncius

Maria was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, wife and friend . A talented artist who could paint and draw anything with passion. She was glamorous, beautiful , kind and funny. A lover of music, art and books. Her favorite movie was Gone With The Wind.

Maria was born and raised in Chicago and then made her home in Colorado with her family. When her father Jerome first looked at her, he thought she looked like a peach, which is how she earned her lifelong nickname of Peachy.

Our childhood was filled with wonderful memories of making homemade pizza on Sunday nights and having long talks in the kitchen. We were very blessed to have a mother who was not just a mom but a “cool mom”. We could talk to her about anything, and for that we are forever grateful.

Her only grandson Alec was the apple of her eye. She loved going to the library with him and teaching him to appreciate reading and books. She played a pivotal role in helping to raise him.

In the last couple of years, Maria battled cancer with grace, dignity, strength and courage and was our hero.

She is survived by her daughters Brigitte and Erika, grandson Alec, brother Jerome, sister Lisa, sister Andrea and husband Brad, nephew Derek and wife Amanda, nephew Nik and niece Allegra.

We will miss her dearly.
