Obituary for Marilyn Jean "Micki" Beckman
Marilyn, beloved wife and mother, passed away on Sep 14 at the age of 83, as a result of complications precipitated by a long battle with Parkinsonism. She was born on Nov 8, 1932, in Penobscot Location, MN(near Hibbing), to Harold J. and Monida (Douville) McHale. She graduated from Hibbing High school in 1951, an honor student who excelled in music, and went on to earn a teaching certificate from Bemidji State College. Marilyn began teaching 5th grade in Brainerd, MN, and later transferred to Great Falls, MT, where she met her husband-to-be, Rodney Beckman, an Air Force pilot.
Marilyn and Rodney were married on June 8, 1957, and she began a 25-year career as an Air Force wife which took her all over the US, to Japan for over seven years, and to Iran for two years. She was truly amazing as an Air Force wife and mentor to many young wives who needed guidance, counseling, and friendship. She was a joy to all who knew her.
Marilyn and Rodney moved to Woodmoor at Monument, CO, after Rodney’s retirement, where she immediately became deeply involved with the Women’s Guild at St. Peter Catholic Church. She served as president of the Guild, Layette Chairman, and Funeral Chairman at various times, and she gave selflessly of her talent, sympathy, and friendship, wherever needed, for over 30 years. In addition, Marilyn worked as a sales associate at Pankratz Pottery for many years, where she excelled.
Marilyn loved to spend time with her many friends at bowling and mahjong, and she also enjoyed sewing the hundreds of layettes she made for Catholic Charities and the hundreds of Raggedy Ann dolls she made for friends and relatives. Another of her favorite things was singing with her sisters, whom she loved dearly.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, Rodney, four children: daughter Kaille Mazurowski, and three sons, Michael, Shawn, and Patrick Beckman; eight grandchildren; and three sisters: Arlene Mancuso, Sally Davidson, and Patti Jo Rogge.
In lieu of flowers, remembrance contributions may be made to St. Peter Catholic Church, Monument, CO.
