Obituary for Marilyn R. Coan
Marilyn was born in Appleton, Wisconsin on October 3, 1933 to John and Viola Werschem. The family lived in the nearby town of Kaukauna, where she grew up with all the freedom of a small town, always considering herself a small town girl. After graduating high school in 1951, she became secretary to the design engineer at Thilmany Pulp and Paper Company in Kaukauna in the Fox River Valley of Wisconsin. Volunteering was always important to Marilyn; opportunities ranged from church activities, activities with the Red Cross, family services with the Air Force, and answering calls on a suicide hot line in Wichita Falls, Texas. She was always thankful and relieved that she never got the really big call. When Dick retired from the Air Force in 1979, they settled here in Southeast Jefferson County. After a short time, she started working at Normandy Elementary School as an aide in the school library. With great determination and diligence, she worked her way down to kindergarten, which she loved. She retired in 1998 from Normandy. On July 31, 2007, they began the final chapter of their lives together when they moved to Wind Crest. It proved to be one of the best decisions they ever made together. She wanted everyone to know just how much the support she received from friends at Wind Crest and from church meant to her.
