Obituary for Maurice D. "Maurie" Isaacson
Maurice "Maurie" Isaacson, age 94, longtime resident of Denver, Colorado. Maurie was the youngest of three sons. He was raised in McCook, Nebraska and then moved to Sioux City, Iowa. After graduating from Central High School, he was drafted into the U.S. Army at the age of 18. He served for 3 years during World War II.
Following his time in the Army, Maurie married his wife, Esther. They celebrated 72 years of marriage in 2018. They moved to Colorado from Iowa after Maurie completed his Bachelor’s Degree at Morningside College. He attended the University of Denver where he received his Master’s Degree. He began his career as a math teacher but soon changed professions and became an architect. His many projects in the home building industry included single family homes in the Harvey Park area as well as condominium projects including Windsor Gardens, Heather Gardens, Morningside and the Promontory.
Maurie and Esther had two daughters, and his love of his wife and daughters was second to none. He raised them in a warm and caring home in Harvey Park that he designed and had built. Maurie always had a love of flying. As a hobby, he built model airplanes, and in the 1960’s he became a licensed private pilot. Maurie’s love of flying and travel took his family to numerous towns in Mexico as well as the United States.
Maurie was both proud of and close to his two sons-in-law. He shared his love of flying and interest in finance with them. In the 1980’s, he became a devoted grandfather of four grandsons. In time, he became the “grandfather-in-law” to their four beautiful wives. He was the great-grandfather of one great-grandson and 3 great-granddaughters. He was affectionately known to all of them as “Bampa”.
Maurice Isaacson passed away on October 26, 2018. He was preceded in death by his two older brothers, Lee and Bruce Isaacson. He is survived by his beloved and devoted wife, Esther, as well as their daughters and families. Maurie was truly a shining example of one of the “Greatest Generation.” He was deeply loved, and will be dearly missed, but forever in everyone’s hearts.
