Obituary for Maurine R. "Robbie" Benson
Maurine Robertson Benson, (Robbie), beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, age 94, passed away May 11, 2021 at ThriveCare Assisted Living in Littleton, Colorado. She was born November 2, 1926, in Spanish Fork, Utah to Thomas O. and Sarah Pauline Smith Robertson. She married William B. Benson, Sr. in 1949, who preceded her in death in 2008.
She is survived by her children: Kathryn Benson, Bruce Benson (Gail), Patty Spencer (Mark); her grandchildren: Will Benson, Kathryn Benson, Sarah Benson, Joshua Spencer (Samantha), Matthew Spencer, Jesse Spencer (Megan) and her great grandchildren: Penelope Spencer, Evalyn Spencer (Joshua and Samantha) and baby due in June (Jesse and Megan).
Maurine grew up in Spanish Fork, Utah and in the Salt Lake City area. Her siblings were Fay, Thomas Jr., Reed, Nedra, Beth, George, Owen, who have all preceded her in death. Robbie was the youngest and was primarily raised by her father and older siblings (her mother Sarah died when Maurine was quite young).
As a young woman Maurine worked for the Railroad during WWII. In 1949 she married Bill Benson in Phoenix, Arizona. While raising their three children she became a licensed real estate agent and worked with Bill to establish Benson Realty.
As a member of First Presbyterian Church in Littleton she was involved in many areas including serving as a deacon, the Ada Tiffany group and sewing with the Country Store group. Maurine loved her church and missed it when she couldn’t attend.
Maurine and Bill retired and moved to Sun City West, Arizona, where they enjoyed many good years together, made new friends, and enjoyed fellowship at The Shepherd of the Hills Methodist church.
Even as a young woman she was an excellent seamstress and continued sewing all her life until recent years. She became skilled in stained glass art during her years in Sun City West, Arizona.
After Bill passed away Maurine moved back to Centennial, Colorado to be close to her family and spend her remaining days with them. She and her daughter Kathryn shared a home, where Kathryn lovingly cared for her in her last years.
Family and friends all enjoyed Robbie’s wonderful wit, sense of humor, and fun nature. She especially enjoyed family gatherings and always had games and great activities to do when family visited. She was a loving mother and cherished her grandchildren, making sure they felt loved and accepted for who they are. In a grandma - she was a rare gift!
She will be greatly missed in the days to come.
The family would like to thank Pamm and Hiroko for their loving care of Robbie and also the excellent team at ThriveCare Assisted Living, Littleton, for all they did to make her last days pleasant.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to First Presbyterian Church of Littleton.
