Obituary for Merle John Savage
Savage, Merle J., was born in Williston, North Dakota to Elizabeth and Merle Savage and was the oldest of four boys. His father and his brother passed away as a result of a car accident when Merle was eight years old. He is survived by his brother Peter Savage, his wife Marjorie and his brother James Michael Savage, both of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Merle was a graduate of the University of North Dakota with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Petroleum Engineering. He was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He was a founding member of the Golden Feather; an organization that was created to promote a greater interest in University activities, particularly athletics. His passion for athletics continued as he was the original “Sammy Sioux” mascot for the university for two years. Merle is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Sehrer Savage. Merle and Mary had three children, Meghan Ahlstrand (Kelly) of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Edward Savage (Melissa) of Ashburn, Virginia and Timothy Savage of Denver, Colorado. He is also survived by five grandchildren: Abigail and Madeleine Ahlstrand, Lauren and Cameron Savage and Raney Savage. During his life, Merle held various jobs in the Oil and Gas Industry in Kansas, Oklahoma and Colorado. Being involved in the Oil and Gas Industry was his life’s passion and he shared this knowledge with countless people over the years. Youth baseball was another one of his hobbies. He was very active in the Apache Baseball League in Littleton, Colorado. From being a coach to member of the board for the league, he took on various activities during the time his sons were active players in the league.

Please join the family at The Varsity Inn located at 7500 South University Bvld, Centennial, CO 80122 to share a fond memory of Merle or a drink with the family. Please wear green as a tribute to Merle’s passion for St. Patrick’s Day and his love of all things Irish.
