Michael Duane Berg, 72, of Littleton, died Monday, January 23, 2023, at home surrounded by his family. Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday February 3, at Ellis Family Services Funeral Home.
Michael was born February 25, 1950, in Sterling, Colorado to Merlin Duane Berg and Dorothy May Berg (Stone). He grew up in Sterling where he graduated from high school in 1968. After high school he attended Northeastern Junior College, before moving on to Colorado State University where he earned a B.A. in history. After C.S.U., Michael returned to Sterling where he signed on with the Burlington Northern Railroad. His work on the railroad was always intended as an avenue to realize his dream of law school, but his time on the railroad also instilled in him a life-long love of railroading.
Michael’s law school dream eventually came true. In 1974 he entered the University of Arkansas, School of Law in Fayetteville, receiving his Juris Doctor degree in 1977. He became a member of the Arkansas bar the same year followed by a short stint at an Osceola, Arkansas firm.
With so much of his life, family, and friends back in Colorado, Michael decided to return to his home state. Once there, he passed the Colorado bar and embarked on a long legal career in real estate title insurance in the Denver area. His expertise in this field was such that he became a frequent trainer, mentor and speaker before gatherings of title agents.
Michael married Barbara Lee Werner in August 1982 in Denver Colorado, with whom he shared more than 40 years. They had two daughters, Jennifer and Amanda.
Among his favorite past-times were model-railroading, hunting, fishing, travel, exploring history, and playing with his grandkids.
Michael is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Berg of Littleton; mother, Dorothy Berg of Sterling; brother, Ronald Berg of Colorado Springs; daughter, Jennifer Vandermeer and husband Trevor Vandermeer of Vejle, Denmark; daughter, Amanda Berg of Aurora; granddaughters, Olivia and Evelyn Vandermeer of Vejle, Denmark.
He was preceded in death by his father, Merlin Berg.
