Obituary for Michael Stephen Shafer
Shafer, Michael Stephen “Steve”, of Parker, CO went to be with the Lord on July 7th, 2012. He was 46 years old. He fought a courageous battle against brain cancer over the past 15 months. Steve was born in Morgan City, LA on October 9th, 1965 to Guy and Kathy Shafer. He spent his childhood in Louisiana enjoying great friends, sports and of course the Cajun food! His family moved to Elk City, OK when he went to High School. He was a phenomenal athlete excelling in football. He had fond memories of his high school friends, fellow athletes and his Christian brothers and sisters. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Elk City. He graduated from Southwestern Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business. He worked in investments with Edward D. Jones and was recognized as a top performer. He then began his career in the Oil Field Service business. He worked 22 years in the business and formed lifelong friendships along the way. Steve was an adoring father, blessed with his first two children Kenzie and Brayden in his first marriage in Oklahoma. He married Lynn in 2003 in Colorado and they were further blessed by the birth of Sophia and Benjamin. Steve had no greater joy in life than his children. He was also thrilled to be a Pawpa! Steve loved God! He was always active in church wherever he lived. He and the family enjoyed being members of Cherry Hills and he loved his mission trip to Juarez. Steve had a wonderfully dry sense of humor that amused all who knew him. He put great value in family and friends. He LOVED golf and the friendships that came along with the sport. Steve is survived by his wife Lynn, daughter Kenzie and her husband Matt, Grandson Talon, son Brayden, daughter Sophia, son Benjamin, parents Guy and Kathy, brother Guy Howard and his wife Mary, sister Sherri and many loving Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces and Nephews. 2 Timothy 4:7 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day —and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
