Obituary for Michaela A. "Mickey" DeLuca
On August 16, 2017, surrounded by family, Michaela Ann DeLuca passed away, after a difficult period of time spent in several hospitals and rehab centers, she spent her last days at the Porter Hospice Residence in Centennial, CO.
Michaela was preceded in death by her husband John Arthur Lucero. They raised a large family together, and it was the joy of their lives to be surrounded by family and to watch it grow.
Michaela is survived by her daughter, Elaney Jonal, and three sons, Michael, Jeremy, and Jason. She was also a grandmother to five and a mother figure to many others including her many nieces and nephews. She truly was surrounded with love.
Michaela was born March 15, 1956, in Denver. The third of five children, she was known as the “Sweet One” to her siblings Mary, Ted, Rae, and Dan. She was a loving mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, as well as a genuine blessing to the people who knew and loved her. Most people know her for her generous nature and wonderful sense of humor. She was an incredibly kind soul who spent much of her time comforting others, even as she knew the end was near. She carried herself with such grace, but her humor was always present. The staff at Porter Hospice commented on her humor and joking nature.
Michaela enjoyed the simpler things in life, including attending to her big, beautiful backyard. She would insist she wasn't any good at gardening, but her backyard always said otherwise. She enjoyed great food and even better company. Michaela lived by simple rules we should all embrace: never take a boring picture, if you can’t shut them up then feed them, and never stop giving. Michaela was by every sense of the word a total goofball. She made people around her laugh and feel comfortable. She was generous, free spirited, and so kind. Her beauty and the sunshine she brought into our lives will not be forgotten but truly missed.
Michaela worked many years for the City of Arvada. She made lifelong friendships there. It was truly her second family. We'd like to thank them for their generosity for donating their own earned time to help extend Michaela's sick leave. The family would also like to extend gratitude to all the Angels at the hospice who took such amazing care of our loving Michaela.
