The family moved to Manhattan, Kansas shortly after Morris was born. His father became a professor in the industrial engineering department of Kansas State University and his mother was a piano teacher. Morris graduated from Manhattan High School in 1947. He attended Kansas State University where he received bachelor’s degrees in journalism (1951) and business administration (1954). During the Korean War he served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1953.
His love of travel and exploring the world led him to Venezuela where he worked for the Creole Petroleum Company from 1954 to 1958. He met his wife Patricia in Caracas and they were married there in 1955. After a brief return to the US where children Brian and Sheila were born, the Hostetters moved to Tripoli, Libya in 1961. Morris worked in the accounting department for Oasis Oil Company for twelve years and they raised their family in the expatriate community of Tripoli in the 1960’s.
The family returned to the United States in 1973 and Morris worked for Forest Oil Corporation in Bradford, Pennsylvania. The company transferred him to Denver in 1975. Since then Morris and Pat have been active members of the Littleton community including First Presbyterian Church where Morris sang in the choir for many years and also served as an elder. In the 1980’s, Morris started a tax preparation service and small business accounting practice. He loved his work and his clients of many years. Morris retired at the age of 85.
