Obituary for Norman Arthur Kasch
Norman Arthur Kasch of Littleton, Colorado, passed away on March 4, 2019 at home with Julia, his loving wife of 68 years at his side.
Norman was born August 16, 1925 in Blue Island, Illinois, the youngest son of Otto and Ruth Kasch. He graduated from Blue Island Community High School in 1943 and enlisted in the V-5 Navy Pilot Program. His older brothers Bill and Donald both served in WWII. Norm's brother Don was a B-17 Bomber Pilot and Norm passed away exactly 75 years to the day, from the date that Don's B-17 was shot down over Germany. Brothers forever...united once again!
Norman utilized the new GI Bill and attended the University of Arizona and Denver University. While at the U of A, Norman met Julia Money, fell in love, and the two married on December 17, 1950. He finished his DU architectural studies and received a Bachelor's Degree in Architecture and Planning in August 1952.
In 1954, Norman formed the architectural partnership of Murrin, Kasch, Kahn & Associates. The firm continued for 17 years, after which he enjoyed a very successful partnership with Jim Mountain (Mountain, Kasch & Associates). Norm's notable institutional buildings included many churches, schools, banks, hospitals, and the entire campus at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colorado. His architectural expertise served clients in many smaller towns in Colorado, Nebraska, and Wyoming. Norm traveled to many of his jobsites in his private airplane and often shared his work and his love of flying with his children. Norm retired in 1991.
Norman and Julia raised their four children (Karl, Martha, Katie, and Don) in Park Hill and later in Littleton. Norman actively served on the Park Hill Action Committee, the Littleton Planning Commission, and other civic groups. Norm and Julia were active Boy and Girl Scout Leaders, and Norm helped "mold" the young men of Boy Scout Troop 28 for over 10 years. He loved the monthly camping trips, coaching the young Webelo Scouts, and teaching skiing to dozens of boys. He was fondly known to many scouts as "Momma Kasch"!
Norm Kasch was the last surviving member of the inaugural DU Pioneer Hockey Team (1949-1950). He shared his love of Hockey with Julia, their children, and many friends and DU fans. He was an avid skier, pilot, fly fisherman, and sailor. Norman raced Star Class Sailboats at Lake Dillon, Carter Lake, and the 1982 World Star Championships. Norman and Julia traveled extensively in their GMC Motorhome and enjoyed many GMC rallies and the pleasure of life on the road. Over the years, Norm and Julia made many close friends and neighbors at Heather Gardens, Garden Plaza, and the RiverPointe Senior Community.
Norman leaves behind his beloved wife Julia, and their children Karl (Karen), Martha Scott (Joe), Katie Sawyer (Michael) and Don (Rachel Peters). He is also survived by 12 Grandchildren, 10 Great-Grandchildren and 2 Great-Great Grandchildren. Norman is preceded in death by his Parents, two Brothers, one Granddaughter and two Grandsons.
Norman Kasch left a loving and lasting impression on all who knew him, worked with him, and loved him. He was a stellar Architect and a devoted and loving husband and father. He always shared amazing stories, a word of wisdom, or a "goofy saying" with his loving grandchildren! We miss you Norm...please know that your wonderful soul will have a permanent place in the hearts of so many who love you!
A Memorial Service for Norman Kasch is scheduled for Saturday, April 27, 2019 (1:00 PM) at RiverPointe Senior Community. RiverPointe is located at 5225 S. Prince Street in Littleton, Colorado, 80123.
IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, the KASCH FAMILY ENCOURAGES AND PREFERS that Memorial Gifts or Donations be made in Norman's memory to Heifer International or to the Boy Scouts of America (Denver Area Council). (Details and address below under MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTION heading).
