Obituary for Oren G. Moore, Jr.
Moore, Oren G, was born in Saint Petersburg, Florida on September 3, 1929. He spent his childhood on or in the water, swimming and spear fishing, in Tampa Bay. He graduated from Saint Petersburg High School and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree at the University of Florida. He was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. Following his college years, he joined the US Navy and rose to the rank of Lieutenant, serving first on a mine planter in Chesapeake Bay, then on the USS Cassin Young, a destroyer, off the coast of Korea. After serving in the Navy, Oren earned his MBA at the University of Florida and then started his career with IBM sales and marketing. Over the years, his career evolved into Space Engineering sales with Raytheon. He loved his experiences in the Space Industry, and after retirement he did weekly volunteer work with children at the 'Space Odyssey' at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. He deeply enjoyed being with young people and teaching about the space program for many years. After Oren's discharge from the Navy in 1955, he married his sweetheart, Katherine Ribble of Lansdowne, Pennsylvania. Oren was a man who loved life, was a wonderful husband, constant friend and loving father of six children, ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was known as 'Daddy-O' by all of his grandchildren. Oren is survived by his wife, Kathie, daughters, Kit Akers and Amy Hopkins, and sons, Oren III (Wade), John, Norman Mark, and Gary, as well as his brother, Merrill. Oren will be sorely missed by all of us.
Service: Military memorial honors, 3 PM, Friday, November 23rd, at Ft. Logan National Cemetery.
