Obituary for Pamela Johnson Kalkus
Pam Kalkus was a force of contagious creativity, wit, and spunk that burned so brightly. After 14 adventure-filled years defying limitations, she lost her body to metastatic breast cancer on Sunday July 23rd at the age of 54, but we still feel her spirit in every moment.
Pam captained her family’s fishing boat growing up and continued as captain through life. From ocean to mountains, it was on the Stanford Ski Team that she met her husband, Mark. After Stanford she worked as a special education teacher. Later, as a full-time-and-then-some mother of four, she did her best to educate the D’Evelyn Steering Committee for 6 years. She was also an adamant volunteer with Guide Dogs for the Blind and the National Sports Center for the Disabled. Pam masterminded family expeditions near and far, always exceptional, and often without running water, which she immortalized in countless beautifully crafted photo albums. While seeding her adventurous spirit in her children, she guided them through lessons of life and wonders of the world.
She continues to be loved by her husband Mark, mother Marie Johnson, brothers Pete and Phil Johnson, her four children Wendy, Trevor, Kira, Kevin, and too many dogs to count.
We will celebrate Pam on Friday, August 25 at 3:00 pm at Amazing Grace Church in Englewood. All those, both human and canine, who love Pam are welcome to attend in BRIGHT COLORS.
IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, the fmaily prefers memorial contributions to be made in Pam's memory to either Amazing Grace Church and/or NSCD (National Sports Center for the Disabled).
Pam will be interred on July 31, 2017 at the Avalon Municipal Cemetery on Catalina Island in California.

Celebrating Pam's Life. All those, both human and canine, who love Pam are welcome to attend in BRIGHT COLORS. There will be a reception following services in the church hall to continue celebrating her life. Parking at Amazing Grace Church is limited. Overflow parking at Colorado Heights University will be provided in Lot H with a no-cost shuttle. Uber/Lyft could also be a convenient option.
