Obituary for Peter Weldon Ashworth

Peter Weldon Ashworth, 79, passed away August 26th, 2022

Born in Miami, FL on July 11th, 1943, where his father, Arthur Lyndon Ashworth, a Naval Captain was stationed during WWII. The family moved to Denver, CO when Pete was a toddler along with his mother Georgia Weldon Ashworth, and younger sister, Wendy Margaret Ashworth. His father had secured Chief Pilot Position for Frontier Airlines in CO.

Pete eventually graduated from East High School in Denver, CO. University years at Northwestern University (IL) and University of Colorado (CO) with a degree in English Literature.

Pete served in the US Marine Corp from March 1968 and was honorably discharged in January 1969.

Thereafter, he went to Law School for a year and a half but decided not to practice law and entered the business world instead. His career ranged from Real Estate to Travel Agency, to the Banking industry where he spent the bulk of his career focused on the Mortgage side of the business.

Pete met his wife, Margaret "Maggie" Bryan when he was in the travel industry, and she was employed at United Airlines. After a whirlwind romance they married on March 3rd, 1972. They had a son, Arthur "Ace" Carl Ashworth, on October 12th, 1973, and a daughter, Mitzi Elizabeth Ashworth on June 2nd, 1975.

In 1986 the family moved from Denver to the Chicago area where Maggie took a position at United’s Headquarters and Pete found a position in the mortgage industry. Their children graduated from high school in Palatine, IL. Ace returned to Colorado for his university years at The Colorado School of Mines receiving a degree in Civil Engineering. Mitzi went to Emory University in Atlanta, GA earning a degree in English Literature.

Ace remains in Colorado in the Engineering field with his family including Pete’s two grandsons, Matthew Bryan (19) and Nathaniel James (16) and wife Jennifer Lynn, a water resource engineer and part-owner of White Sands Water Engineers. Mitzi lives in St Charles, IL and works in the banking industry (like her dad) and lives with her wife, Jennifer Kimmel, a protein Chemist.

Pete and Maggie left Chicago at the end of 1999 to move to Geneva, Switzerland where Maggie had accepted a post with the International Air Transport Association (IATA). They enjoyed a five-year tenure there. Pete opened a successful internet café in Neon, France while still managing to play a lot of golf and taking his wife on many travels throughout the region.

Golf was Pete’s passion. He played throughout his school years and was junior state champion at East High School. This contributed to his scholarship at Northwestern University. He loved playing the game almost his entire life passing along the interest to his son and grandsons and many wonderful games with his brother-in-law, Edwin Bryan.

Pete loved his family. He loved Maggie’s family and was especially close to his mother-in-law Frances Bryan. He had warm and tender feelings for all his sisters and brothers in law. He loved to travel. He loved to play golf and always strived to break Par. He loved the Lord. He was active in the bible study groups for years with the Presbyterian Church. He was an active member and served in many leadership positions.

An outgoing, gregarious man who will be missed by many here in Colorado and in many parts of the world where he lived and travelled. His family will miss his presence and love deeply.
