Obituary for Peter Windfeldt, Jr.
Windfeldt, Jr., Peter, age 83, of Golden. A proud and stubborn Dane, Peter WIndfeldt Jr. was born March 31, 1929, in Viola Center, Iowa to Danish immigrant parents Peter and Anna Windfeldt. He spent his formative years working in the family grocery store and on their dairy farm. After 4 years in the Air Force, he obtained BS and MBA degrees from the University of Denver. Pete is best known as the long time owner of the Crestwood restaurant in Littleton, which he operated for 36 years before retiring in 2003. The Crestwood won numerous civic and landscaping awards including a national landscaping award where Pete was recognized in a ceremony at the White House. He knew all of his customers by name and considered them friends rather than customers. More than just a boss to many of the thousands of employees who worked for him over the years, Pete took a genuine interest in teaching the values of hard work and a job well done to young people. But he loved his family most of all and was a beloved husband, father, brother and 'Papa Pete' to his seven grandchildren. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Mary, the love of his life, devoted children Lynne (aka Sister Mary Thomas) of Texas, Lisa Powell (Alan) of North Carolina, John Windfeldt (Melissa) of Missouri, and David Windfeldt (Solange) of Denver; his grandchildren Preston, Erin, Thomas, Haley, Madison and twins Davis and Cameron; and dear sisters Verla Hess and Wilma Keyes along with a host of nieces, nephews and other family. He was honest, generous, hard working and meticulous. Pete will be missed by the many whose lives he touched.
