Laine, Richard Carl, passed away on October 11, 2012 at home with his family. He was born on January 30, 1942 in Rock Springs, Wyoming to his first generation Finnish father, Raino Laine, and his first generation Hungarian mother, Elizabeth Farkus Laine. He grew up here in Colorado, in Utah, Idaho and New Mexico and attended NMSU in Las Cruces. He began a long career with AT&T as a technician in Las Cruces, N.M., then as a satellite maintenance technician in Santa Fe and finally as a highly respected manager in Denver. He retired from AT&T in 2004 after 38 years of service. He married Gwen Barlow on June 20, 1964 in Pocatello, Idaho, and they had 48 wonderful years together. He dedicated his life to his wife and children, and to his love of the outdoors. He is survived by his son, Mark Laine of Albuquerque N.M., daughter Karen Laine of Lakewood, CO, son Adrian Laine and wife Michelle with their two children, his grandsons, Connor and Drake, of Reunion, CO, and two beloved dogs Misty and Lady. He is also survived by his brothers, Roger Laine of Phoenix, Arizona and Ronald Laine of Whittier, California and wife Sandy, his sister, Jeannie Laine Young, of Abilene, Texas and husband Mike, and four nieces and a nephew. His love of Colorado and the mountains knew no boundaries and began when he and his siblings spent their summers in Oak Creek with their grandparents. He loved to snow shoe, ski, hike, bike, camp, and fish – even up until the last week of his life. He climbed eighteen “fourteeners” here in Colorado – most of them after he was 50 years old.
