Obituary for Robert "Bob" L. Greco, III
Robert Lewis Greco III (Bob), beloved husband of Cathy Greco, and “good dad” to Matthew Greco passed away suddenly and peacefully early in the morning on May 17th. He was 57 years old.
Bob was born in Penfield, New York to parents Virginia (Ginny) and Robert (Bob) Greco who preceded him in death. Bob and his sister Nancy grew up in Penfield until Bob went to college at Colgate University (class of 81), and Cornell University where he graduated with a Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering in 1983.
After graduating from Cornell, Bob landed what he described as his dream job of all time-working as a record store clerk making minimum wage in Rochester, NY. Eventually, reality intruded and he headed off to Washington DC to actually use his graduate degree as an environmental engineer in the Office of Mobile Sources, US Environmental Protection Agency. In 1990, Bob left the EPA to work for the American Petroleum Institute where he worked for 25 years in various positions prior to retiring as an executive. Most recently, he headed to sunny Colorado to work for the Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association as a senior environmental policy analyst. While he missed friends and family on the East Coast, Bob loved Colorado and was looking forward to exploring the West in the years to come.
Bob was a major master of all trivia, a competitive armchair sports enthusiast, an eclectic music aficionado, lifelong Greenbay Packers fan, wine and craft beer connoisseur, good friend to many, doting father to Matt, and wonderful husband. He was beloved as a boss, and valued as a co-worker. He was a genuinely happy person, and was described by many people in Washington as “one of the good guys”.
Bob is survived by his wife Cathy and their son Matthew, his sister Nancy Gaa (Perry Gaa) and their children Harrison and Emily.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or Autism Speaks.
