Obituary for Sally K Bender
Sally Bender, aged 63, an enthusiastic and lifelong resident of Denver, Colorado passed away in her home on Tuesday, February 19th, 2019. Sally was born in Denver, Colorado May 11th, 1955 to Ron and Barb Visser. She had two younger sisters, Cindy and Laurie. Sally was married to her high-school sweetheart, Barry Bender, for more than 40 years. Together they had three precocious sons, Adam, Luke, and Seth. Sally was also thrilled to have had one granddaughter, Cora, and two fiercely loyal doggos, Shiloh and Tucker.
In many ways Sally considered raising her boys to be her greatest accomplishment and she had dozens of funny, sorrowful, and often embarrassing stories to share about each of them.
Sally had several other joys in life including her work, her garden, traveling, and her book collection. She had a masters degree in Nursing from CU and was an SICU Nurse at Denver Health for 38 years. She was deeply respected, helping to save many lives and train many doctors and nurses during her tenure. Sally had traveled extensively but her favorite places were Grand Lake, CO., Ireland, and her ancestral homeland, the Netherlands. Every spring she could found tending her beautiful garden. And every night before bed you could find her at the kitchen table reading quietly.
Sally was famous for her toughness, her compassion, her christmas cookies, and her ability to make anyone feel like part of the family. She also knew how to enjoy the little things in life like lunch dates with her mother and sisters or being a local tourist with her daughter-in-law.
Barry, Seth, Luke, Adam (Angela), Laurie & Cindy invite you to attend a celebration of Sally’s life at the Botanic Gardens of Denver on Saturday, March 23rd, 2019 at 3:00 pm.
IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, donations can be made in her name to the Gardens Fund at the Botanic Gardens of Denver (https://www.botanicgardens.org) or Outpaws Animal Rescue (http://www.outpaws.org).
