Obituary for Sandra Kay "Sandy" Gabel
Sandra Kay Gabel, age 61 of Aurora, Colorado, passed away on February 10th, 2016, at the Parker Adventist Hospital in Parker, Colorado. Sandy was a wonderful and loving woman, a friend to many and a devoted and amazing mother.
She leaves behind two wonderful sons, Bobby and Andrew Gabel, as well as her sister Linda and nephew Steve Hoevel.
She is preceded in death by her father Kermit Flaskerud, her mother Amelia Opsal-Flaskerud, and her husband Mike in 2011.
Sandy was born in Denver, Colorado and grew up in Aurora. She went to Montview Elementary school, North Middle School, and graduated from Aurora Central High School in 1973. She went to Parks Business School to become a medical assistant. She worked for King Soopers for over 30 years. She was a Cub Scout leader and a volunteer at Mrachek Middle School for nearly a decade, long after her kids no longer attended. She was very active in the lives of her two sons, and cared about them a great deal. She was an avid outdoors person, and loved the mountains. She also loved to read, and had a great fondness for science fiction, especially Star Trek, and space in general. She was lucky enough to marry her high school sweetheart after he returned from the service. She spent almost all her time with friends and family, especially after retirement. She had family over for every single holiday, and her kids’ friends were and still are almost always hanging out at the house. It was always like a big party. Sandy was also an avid Bronco fan and she thanks them for bringing home the "WIN" prior to her passing.
The family has asked that everyone attending Sandy's service to dress casual and in Bronco color attire if available to honor her life.
In lieu of sending flowers to her funeral, the family has asked to PLEASE donate to www.gofundme.com/sandygabel. Her children would appreciate the financial support in these hard times.
