It is with an unbearable ache in our hearts that we must announce the passing of our beautiful son James Donald “Seamus” O’Connor on Thursday, November 26, 2020.

Seamus was a son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, boyfriend, friend, eater of all fine food, hockey player, music lover, drummer, cook, golfer, and lover of animals. He was kind, generous, mischievous, fearless, funny, joyful, and fiercely loyal. Whether he was helping prepare his favorite meal, Christmas Eve dinner, playing hockey from the age of five, working out some new freestyle rap lyrics, or playing games with family until late into the night, Seamus’ bright smile and infectious love of life brought light and joy to everyone who knew him.

Some may know that Seamus had been struggling with addiction for more than five years. A little over two years ago, Seamus moved to Palm Springs, CA, where he was thriving. He was able to achieve and maintain a drug-free life. He worked in service of his passion – fine dining – and became a top-notch, oft-requested waiter at the finest steakhouse in Palm Springs. He started golfing with his friends, he fell in love, and he moved in with his girlfriend, Rebekah Cloud. He also developed a close bond with Rebekah’s daughter Julie McGlamary.

As is the case with so many others, Seamus was devastated to lose his job and had a difficult time facing all the challenges this pandemic placed on him. Seamus accidentally overdosed early Thanksgiving morning, showing us all how difficult it is to fight this horrible disease no matter how long you have been free from the grasp of addiction.

Seamus is survived by his loving parents Jim and Sharon O’Connor, his sister Meghan MacKillop, brother-in-law Mac and nephew Declan, his grandmother Shirley Albicocco, and his girlfriend Rebekah and her daughter Julie. Seamus will be missed by his uncle Larry (Dawn) O’Connor, Aunt Gina Miller, cousins Anthony, Kristen, Matthew, Lauren, Abby, Kyle, Schylar, Zachary, and a host of extended family.

We want to thank everyone who has reached out to our family. Our pain is immeasurable, but we find comfort in all your kind words and actions. Seamus will forever be our adored son, brother, grandson, uncle, and companion. Seamus, your brilliant star will forever burn in our memories and in our hearts.

We are in the process of establishing the Seamus O’Connor Memorial Addiction Recovery Fund in honor of Seamus, a non-profit to help provide services for those in need and afflicted by addiction. Details to be provided.
