each stage of the grieving process.
Siew K. Loon (aka Doris), 70, peacefully passed away on February 25th 2023, about 3 months after her diagnosis of cholangiocarcinoma. She was on hospice care in Denver, Colorado among her loved ones when she passed.
Doris was born on February 7th, 1953 to Loon Cheong Onn and Chan Ting Lin in Klang, Malaysia. She was faithful to her family as a daughter and sister after the passing of her father at a young age. She graduated from high school and immediately started work to help support her family. She had a passion for art and was involved in magazine artwork and designing. She worked for Berita Publishing and New Straits Times for years as well as some subcontracting work where she met many of her long-time friends in Malaysia. Her friends remember her as an “amazing” friend.
Doris was married in 1977 to Boon H. Goh (“Ronnie”) and had two children, Aik Kwang (“William”) and Ee-Leng. She worked hard to bring up her children for a better future. Doris and Ronnie decided to immigrate to the United States (U.S.) in the 1980’s and the process did not complete until year 2000.
After immigrating to the U.S., Doris worked as a JCPenney salon receptionist while attending the Arts Institute to obtain her Associates in Arts in her late 40’s. She obtained her degree and started working for Verizon, which later transitioned to Dex Media. She continued her position at Dex Media for years even after her position was transitioned from arts to administrative work. She always had pride in her job even through the years of career changes. She decided to continue working even past the age of retirement (65 years old). She was later let go and was given the opportunity to go back to school. She chose baking school. If anyone knows Doris well, she never baked much in her entire life (prior to baking school). She found this new passion and excelled. She graduated with her certificate in June 2022 and started work in a small bakery to refine her baking skills. She made some amazing treats and shared with many of us. 2-3 months into working, she was diagnosed with the cancer.
Doris was predeceased by her parents, Loon Cheong Onn and Chan Ting Lin. She is survived by her husband, Ronnie, children, William and Ee-Leng, daughter-in-law, Lily, son-in-law, Benji, four grandchildren, Mia, Sebastian, Micah and Stuart, a brother, two sisters, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Doris’ most important milestone of her life was coming to know Jesus as her Lord and Savior on January 9th, 2005. She fellowshipped at Carrollwood Bible Chapel and was baptized on Easter of 2005. She lived out her faith to her family and friends. She passed from this earth to glory in heaven on February 25th, 2023 – to join her Savior there. No more suffering.
Doris was an amazing and hardworking wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She will be dearly missed.
