Obituary for Thomas William "Tom" Heaney
Mr. Thomas “Tom” William Heaney of Denver, Colorado (formerly Maryland), passed away suddenly on Sunday, October 7th at the age of 84 after spending the day surrounded by family.
Tom was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and grew up in North Jersey, a fact that was easy to pick up on within the first five minutes of speaking with him, as his accent and taste for crumb buns never faded. A full pot of coffee, hard rolls and butter and a kitchen table could get his stories flowing; and the “Kitchen Table Confessions” did not disappoint, always equal parts shock and laughter.
Tom wore many “hats” throughout his life and his sparkling baby blues looked good in all of them.
He was a SON to Lillian Reilly (D), Clarence Heaney (D) and Bernard Amelung (D). He was an older BROTHER to Raymond Heaney, Donald Heaney (D), Bernard Amelung Jr (D) and Robert Amelung (D). He was a MUSICIAN, playing guitar with his band Andy and the Deltones and also while sitting on his couch singing to his children and grandchildren. He was an IRONWORKER for 26 years, working alongside his brothers and friends. He was a loving HUSBAND, celebrating 66 years of marriage to his wife Dolores this May. He was a BROTHER-IN-LAW to Anita and Eugene (D) Roemer, Eddy and Rosie Hansen, Josephine “Sissy” Heaney and Helen Heaney (D). He was a longtime FRIEND of John (D) and Mary Dombrowski for over 66 years. He was a FATHER to daughters Linda Dummar, Donna Langmead and sons Thomas William Jr (D) and Thomas Daryl. He was a FATHER-IN-LAW to David Dummar and Michael Langmead, Sr. He was a POPPY to Samantha and Shawn Brown, Shannon Langmead, Derek and Alicia Dummar, Jonathan and Becca Dummar, Michael and Shannon Langmead, Brooke Heaney and Thomas Heaney. He was a POP to AJ Dummar, Dade Brown, Dorothy Langmead, Grace Dummar, Trae Dummar and Case Brown. He was an UNCLE to Chris, Kelly, Carly and Paul Roemer and Scott, Beth and Cody Roemer, Denise and Donald Gavin, Debbie Jo Gavin, Sheryl and Todd Ritter, Raymond Heaney Jr (D), Ronald and Penny Heaney, Cindy and Scott Gasiorowski ,Robert and Zulay Amelung. Darlene Amelung (D) He was a COUSIN to Dottie, Wally,Jackie,Billy He was a COOK and made the best breakfasts (even when he had to stretch the oxygen tubing into the kitchen), but you had to hide the Brillo pads as Teflon coating was no match for Tom. He was a GAMBLER loving to go to Vegas or “up the hill” with Dee to play the slots, eat a buffet or watch the shows, playing Keno or his lottery numbers. He was a DANCER, both in the kitchen with his daughters and granddaughters on his feet and with Dee lighting up the dance floor. He was a FAMILY MAN, he loved his family more than anything and loved to celebrate in their accomplishments.
In lieu of flowers or donations, we ask that you take a minute to look the “hats” you wear in life, to make sure you are wearing the ones that matter the most, most often. Hug your family, tell them you love them and don‘t take a minute for granted. “The best is yet to come and won‘t that be fine”-Frank Sinatra.
